As we age our skins natural oils start to decrease and the moisture barrier breaks down, drying out our skin and increasing the appearance of wrinkles.
Many people use creams at night to replenish their skin but creams contain only a small amount of oil and don’t offer the beneficial properties a facial oils does.
Facial oils are nourishing, moisturising and hydrating and leave the skin feeling silky smooth and super soft.
They are easily absorbed into the skin, penetrating the surface layers of the epidermis, making them an excellent way to deliver anti-oxidants and vitamins helping to maintain moisture levels for a more radiant and youthful appearance.
With the addition of essential oils, for example, Geranium and Lavender, the facial oil will offer calming and balancing aroma-therapeutic qualities.
Lets take a look at the oils we will be using and their benefits.
Rosehip Oil (INCI: Rosa Canina) contains vitamin A, is balancing, softening and soothing. It helps to increase elasticity, firm the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Macadamia Oil (INCI: Macadamia Ternifolia) is my go to oil. It’s nourishing, softening, smoothing and moisturising, very similar to the skins own moisturising sebum. It’s great for dehydrated, ageing, mature and sensitive skin – and I love it!
Jojoba Oil (INCI: Simmondsia Chinensis) is anti-inflammatory, rich in antioxidants and tones, softens and soothes. It is great for dry, oily and acne prone skin as it balances sebum production.
Frankincense Essential Oil (INCI: Boswellia Carterii) – astringent, regenerative, smoothing.
Geranium Essential Oil (INCI: Pelargonium graveolens) – Balancing, soothing and calming.
Lavender Essential Oil (INCI: Lavandula Angustifolia) – Healing, soothing, anti-inflammatory.
I have listed the ingredients below. If you don’t have precision scales you can round up the Macadamia and Jojoba oils to 5g each.
|Frankincense Essential Oil||0.5||(0.1g) 2 drops|
|Geranium Essential Oil||0.25||(0.05g) 1 drop|
|Lavender Essential Oil||0.25||(0.05g) 1 drop|
Start by weighing the Rosehip, Jojoba and Macadamia oils into a small glass beaker. Then add the essential oils and mix to combine.
Once the oils are combined, pour into a 20ml dark glass dropper bottle and enjoy!
